The Rural Water Supply Programme is a demand-driven policy and the Central Government has decided to restructure the said programmes by including the Central Government sponsored Vardhit Veg Programme, Swajaldhara and State Government sponsored Mahajal as well as non-tribal/tribal internal works and convert them into the National Rural Drinking Water Programme Jal Jeevan Mission from the year 2009-2010. Accordingly, it is committed to supply water to the families in rural areas as per “Har Ghar Jal” (FHTC- Functional House Hold Tap Connection) by the year 2024. The main objective of Jal Jeevan Mission is to supply at least 55 liters of quality water per capita per day through individual tap connection to every household in the rural areas of the state by 2024.
